Celebrating the Jewels of Church Street: Twilight Stroll

The Oude Kerk Volksmuseum cordially invites you to attend a Twilight stroll on Heritage Day, 18th September 2010. Some fascinating histories will be narrated during this walk starting at 15h00. at the Old Church Museum, no 1. Church Street. The launch will be conducted by the Minister of Arts and Culture.

Participants will be introduced to South Africa’s oldest church still in its original form - since 1743. From there the walk will continue down Church Street. This street is renowned for containing a large number of Cape-Dutch, Edwardian and Victorian buildings.

You will also learn more about the natural disaster that struck Tulbagh, Ceres and Wolseley on the 29th of September 1969. Memories of this earthquake will deal with both its immediate effects as well as the positive and negative influences on the development of the town since 1969.

Museum guides will provide a brief history - including interesting folk tales and ghost stories - of the people who used to live in the four museum buildings. A researcher from the Museum Service of the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport will provide additional information on the history of Tulbagh.
There is no cost attached to the stroll.. At the end of the walk you will be able to enjoy more mouthwatering refreshments as well as some of the famous Tulbagh wines, which will be served at the Old Church Museum.
