ESKOM POWER LINE
I refer to the correspondence below which was printed in a recent Tulbagh news. I have been involved with the action groups opposing elements of PPC’s proposals to build a new cement factory near Riebeek West from the beginning. Like the Eskom situation one appeal period ran across the Christmas holiday period. At this time it is impossible to get anything done since so many are away. As a result, following representations, the period was ignored – i.e. at least 30 days were granted in addition to the holiday period. As far as the Eskom case is concerned I have received no notification (as an interested and affected party) that the appeal period has been extended to January 12th. Given the numbers on holiday I guess I may not hear officially until the extension period has expired! Where does this leave us?
John Veschini comments in a letter that Eskom and/or their consultants have not provided realistic pictures of what the power line is likely to look like when it has been erected. We have had exactly the same problem with PPC. The visuals provided are almost impossible to decipher and give no clear indications of the impact of the proposed works. From this one can only assume the worst.
