Dear Sirs,
Attention Jenna Theron
Proposed Airstrip : Rectification application for the illegal construction of an airstrip on farm 417 Grootvlei, Tulbagh.
DEA&DP Ref No. E12/2/3/4-B5/13-00008/09
My comments are as follows;
Whilst we support the need for an airstrip in the Tulbagh valley and we understand the necessity for crop spraying at times when the ground is soggy and tractors cannot be used, my problems with the airstrip are as follows;
1. The incessant noise of the aircraft in the early hours of the morning.
2. The close proximity of the airfield to the town of Tulbagh.
3. The pollution of our environment by the pesticides, which cause health problems to the community.
4. The possibility that the use of the airfield will not be restricted to his (the applicant's) own use in terms of crop spraying, as the crop spraying contractors generally base themselves in a certain area and contract out to other farmers in the valley and even beyond, in order to make their businesses viable - therefore compounding the effects of the airstrip on the town and surrounding non-grain farmers.
Yours faithfully,
John Veschini
