Bloekombossie is the Afrikaans word for a Bluegum Tree. Mother dreamt the name and it is right. Unfortunately bluegums drink a lot of water and nothing grows under it. The woodcutter came and chopped them down. In the honouring of the trees we used them in the building constuction and the fencing and features all around the Restaurant. This one of a kind feature makes the restaurant unique. The pond was made when the clay was used for the insulation in the roof. Ducks are now swimming in the pond and on Summer evenings you can hear the froggy and crickets choirs competing. If you are lucky and I mean very lucky you might just spot a faerie!!!

The Beautiful Witzenberg Mountains can be viewed from the stoep and sunset on the stoep is worth taking a photo. Winter is splendid with snow capped the mountains then you can sit at our cosy fireplace and have homemade soup and bread. Pancakes will always be alvailable when it's raining. Summer calls for special salads and fresh green things from the garden. Home cooked meals on Sundays. (Bookings only)

Local Art and Local Wine from our region can be enjoyed here. We also cater for small functions. Traditional and spit braai's in our lapa at the back can be booked for office parties and groupbookings.

Local Artists work will always be displayed on every available bit of wall space.

Rochelle Beresford also the owner of the Bloekombossie Restaurant is know for her little paintings of roses.

Alexis Bester's work is colourful and humorous, he must have great fun. He lives on a farm in between Tulbagh and Wolseley with his wife and daugter. He never had formal training. Great work and worth a drive out to come and look at them!

Louis Ströh van der Walt and his wife Tania Swiegers is living in Church street. Louis is know for his energetic landscapes. I always admire his ability to capture that last bit of sunlight that catches the edge of the mountains. His wife Tania's sensual nudes in monochrome colours reflect for me the mother.

Jeffrey Doveton is a goldsmith by trade and started painting about three years ago. Lucky for him he was offered a great position at his old firm in Cape Town and we can only see him on weekends. I'm glad to say unlike most artist's he is producing. He paints nudes on wood with oil paint, thus creating very striking effects.

Other Artist work which can be seen here or we can direct you to visit them is Vasek Matousek, Tina Nel, Jan du Toit, Annette du Plessis, Thea Smith, Lex van Heerden, Elna van Niekerk, Otto Feldhause.

Artists from further afield is Hantie Londt, Jean-pierre Theron, Lisa T. von Brandis, Selwyn Pekeur and Jan Visser.

I'm also involved with a Local Economic Develop Project. The Busy Bee Craft Centre will be the main centre for the co-operation and co-ordination of craft projects. Our first step has been achieved with the acquiring of a building in co-operation with our Municipality (Witzenberg Municipality). Next step is to receive funding to pay for the pottery equipment to set up a Pottery workshop. In the interim we will start cleaning up the building and enclose the area for the workshop.
