Dear David,
On Friday morning at 10h00, there was an armed robbery to the Chinese shop at the north western end of Van der Stel Street. The tenant was badly injured (hacked and beaten).
According to the neighbour, both she and the police phoned for an ambulance and the ambulance simply never ever arrived. The Police eventually took the patient to the doctor and thereafter, the doctor managed to get a response from the ambulance service.
This is not the first instance that I have heard of.
I would be pleased if this occurrence could be investigated and steps taken to ensure that this ambulance service is brought up to a level of service that the community needs, more especially as it falls within a 'life threatening' essential service category?
I would appreciate feedback as to where this investigation leads and the result thereof.
If the ambulance service comes under the Cape Winelands District Municipality, I would be pleased if you could forward this mail to the responsible person and copy same to me.
This is a matter of grave concern to this organisation. If someone needs an ambulance immediately for any life threatening occurrence, there should be one available - given that there are no hospitals in Tulbagh.
Kind regards,
John Veschini
